ADHD Therapy

ADHD Therapy

I offer personalised ADHD assessments, ADHD counselling, and ADHD therapy (ADHD-focused psychotherapy) designed to meet the unique needs of each individual. With personal lived experience of ADHD, guided by my compassionate and research-driven approach, I aim to create a comfortable space where you can explore the challenges ADHD brings to your life, and gain clarity on the most effective ways to manage it.

A Collaborative Approach to ADHD Therapy

My approach to ADHD therapy is grounded in a systemic perspective, considering the physical, emotional, and social dynamics that influence your experience of ADHD. ‘Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder’ hardly describes the existential storms one weathers. Therefore, rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all solution, I work collaboratively with you as the expert on your own life. Together, we will identify tailored strategies to manage ADHD symptoms effectively and help you navigate your personal and professional challenges with greater ease.

If, after our assessments, you decide to proceed to a clinical diagnosis that could lead to a prescription of ADHD medication, I will happily discuss the options available to you.

If you are taking ADHD medication already, you would most likely have experienced that its full potential is only realised when taken in combination with psychotherapy.

ADHD Assessments: Why They Matter

If you are unsure whether you live with ADHD, or are seeking a deeper understanding of your symptoms, an ADHD assessment is an invaluable step.

The question is whether the distractibility, impulsivity and hyper activity so many of us display, is ADHD or not. One of our challenges is that most of us are ‘dopamine addicted’. As the digital world is designed to keep us glued to our screens, online ADHD self-assessments have become just another way to draw us down a rabbit hole. An assessment with me as a mental health professional, provides a thorough exploration of your attention, impulsivity, and emotional regulation, which can offer clearer insights into the challenges you face. However, it’s important to note that an ADHD assessment is not a formal clinical diagnosis; rather, it serves as a foundational tool to guide the next steps in treatment. The formal clinical diagnosis may only be served by a psychiatrist.

Self-assessment tools can be helpful, but they often lack the perspective and accuracy that a professional assessment offers. Working with a qualified therapist ensures you receive a detailed, well-rounded view of your symptoms, leading to more effective treatment and support.

Effective ADHD-Focused Psychotherapy

In our sessions, I use a variety of therapeutic models which are particularly effective for ADHD-focused psychotherapy. These methods address not only the cognitive difficulties of attention and focus but also emotional regulation and impulsivity, all of which are core components of ADHD. Through this tailored approach, we can work together to improve your attention, manage impulsivity, and create healthier coping strategies.

Managing ADHD in Everyday Life

ADHD doesn’t just impact attention – it can affect relationships, self-esteem, and your overall quality of life. Through ADHD therapy and counselling, I support you in building resilience and self-compassion, while providing practical tools for managing ADHD symptoms in day-to-day life.
